Emerson Copeland compressors are used in various freezing and refrigeration equipment.

Working Principle of the Scroll Compressor
The scroll compressor is a positive displacement compressor, and the compression component is composed of a movable scroll and a fixed scroll.
Its working principle is to use the relative orbital motion of the moving and static scrolls to form a continuous change of the enclosed volume to achieve the purpose of compressing a gas.
The simple concept of the vortex was first invented in 1905.
The pressure of the scroll compressor is produced by the interaction between the movable scroll and the fixed scroll.
The scroll is an involute spiral, which meshes with the matching scroll as shown in the figure above to form a series of gradually expanded space that exists between the two components.
When compressed, one scroll remains stationary (fixed scroll) and the other scroll (orbiting scroll) is allowed to make planetary motions around the stationary scroll.
When this movement occurs, the space between the two disks is slowly moved to the center of the two scroll disks, and at the same time the volume is reduced, and the gas is forced into smaller and smaller spaces.
When space reaches the center of the scroll, the high-pressure gas is discharged through the Exhaust vent located in the center.
In the scroll compressor, the three working processes of suction, compression, and exhaust are carried out at the same time during one rotation of the main shaft.
The outer space is connected to the suction port and is always in the suction process.
The inner space is connected to the exhaust port. In the exhaust process.
During the compression process, the 6 gas channels are in different compression stages, forming a very smooth compression process.
So the suction process (outer part of the scroll) and exhaust process (inner part) are continuous.

Problem: Bad Oil Return in the Unit System
Trouble phenomenon:
After the compressor is disassembled, the moving and static disks are intact, the motor winding values are normal, and the amount of remaining refrigerating oil is generally low, and the oil quality is average;
The moving plate and the crankshaft are stuck, after removing the moving plate, the moving plate, and the bracket the sleeve is severely burned; the lower sleeve is intact.
There is an oil pump on the crankshaft and the installation is firm.
Problem analysis:
From the point of view that the driven plate and the crankshaft are stuck, the compressor failure is caused by poor oil return in the system.
Due to the poor oil return of the system, the compressor lacks oil and cannot deliver enough refrigerating oil to the lubrication parts, which makes the bottom-up dry friction of each lubrication part (sleeve) intensified in turn, causing the moving disc and crankshaft to jam in a short time.
The poor oil return of the system generally manifests in two situations: one is when the compressor is running, the refrigerating oil is discharged into the system by the compressor after a long time, the oil cannot return to the compressor so that the refrigerating oil inside the compressor is continuously reduced.
The compressor is short of oil; the other is that when the compressor is running, the oil return is not continuous, but intermittent, especially when the compressor is just started or the working condition is in a transitional process, the oil returning to the compressor will be too much for a while It will be less for a while, and the oil will not be returned for a long time after the oil return is completed.
There are many reasons for poor oil return, such as a clogged capillary tube, blocked oil return hole in the liquid storage cylinder, unsuitable hole size, or system overload operation, or system lack of oil due to leakage.
Problem: Does the Compressor Run Short of Fluorine?
Trouble phenomenon: After the compressor is decomposed, the inner cavity is scorched and the quality of the remaining refrigerating oil deteriorates;
There are obvious high-temperature discoloration marks in the center of the moving and static plates, the O-ring is aging, and the motor is burned.
Problem analysis: From the situation that high temperature of the driven and static disks occurred in the center and the O-ring carbonization and damage were analyzed.
This is a fluorine-deficient operation phenomenon.
Due to the fluorine-deficient operation, the temperature of the center of the compressor’s moving and static plates is getting higher and higher, the expansion and deformation are getting bigger and bigger, causing hard friction, and the temperature is getting higher and higher.
Therefore, the refrigerating machine oil is carbonized, causing the inner cavity to burn, and the O-ring is aging and damaged.
In severe cases, the moving and static disks may be stuck or broken.
Due to the hard friction or jamming of the moving and static disks, the motor generates a large current.
Under the action of a large current, the IP frequently opens and closes, which eventually leads to the failure of the IP contact adhesion.
Vacuum Operation?
Trouble phenomenon: The compressor electric winding value is normal; the insulation resistance is above 500MΩ, and the remaining refrigerating machine oil is of poor quality, which is black; the exhaust pressure is low during idling.
After the compressor was decomposed, it was found that the O-ring was damaged due to high-temperature aging, the sealing ring at the end of the moving disk, and the static disk was melted, and the contact surface of the moving disk and the bracket had serious pressure and wear marks.
Problem analysis: The high temperature of the driven and static disks occurred in the center and the O-ring aging and damage were analyzed.
This is a typical vacuum operation phenomenon. Due to the vacuum operation, the temperature of the center of the compressor’s moving and static plates rises rapidly.
When the temperature reaches about 300°C, the end seal ring will melt, the refrigerating machine oil will be carbonized, and the O-ring will be aged and damaged.
As the end sealing ring melts, pressure leakage will occur, resulting in insufficient exhaust pressure.
In severe cases, the excessively high temperature in the center of the scroll will cause abnormal expansion of the scroll, resulting in severe grinding marks on the contact surface of the moving plate and the support.
Under normal circumstances, the vacuum operation will be damaged for about two minutes.
The end seal ring melts due to the vacuum operation, and the melted end seal ring adheres to the walls of the moving and static disk scrolls, which increases the friction between the moving and static disk scrolls. Large, causing the compressor to not start.
The reasons for the vacuum operation of the compressor are generally: in the production line and the air conditioner is under maintenance, the air conditioner is powered on without opening the suction valve or plugging in the suction pipe quick connector during the trial operation.
Use the compressor to directly vacuum the pipeline system or operate without opening the low-pressure valve.
Wiring Error?
Trouble phenomenon: The inner cavity is clean, the amount of remaining refrigerating oil is normal, and the oil quality is good;
The moving and static disks are intact, and the motor winding wire is fused, the two winding values are abnormal, and the IP is decomposed, and the IP heating wire is found to be melted.
Problem analysis: Judging from the normal amount of remaining refrigerating oil in the compressor and good oil quality, the compressor may not have been running for a long time, and it could not start and run normally before the failure.
The current through the motor is large, causing the IP to trip. After the IP trips, a large current still flows in the M and S winding of the motor, which will eventually burn the outer insulation layer of the magnet wire and cause the winding value to be abnormal.
The Power Supply Voltage is Too Low?
Trouble phenomenon: The remaining amount of refrigerating oil is normal and the oil quality is good; the moving and static disks are intact, and the motor winding wire is fused; the motor winding value is abnormal.
Investigate the IP and find that the IP contacts are stuck and cannot be disconnected.
Problem analysis: Judging from the normal amount of remaining refrigerating oil in the compressor, good oil quality, and IP contact adhesion, the compressor may not have been running for a long time, and it could not start and run normally before the failure.
At this time, the current through the motor is large. , Causing the IP to open and close frequently, and eventually causing the contacts to melt and stick, leading to IP failure.
After the IP fails, the winding binding wire of the motor is burnt under the action of high current, and the outer insulating layer of the magnet wire is burned, causing some winding to be short-circuited, causing abnormal winding values.
The reasons for the compressor failure are: the voltage is too low and the compressor cannot start to run. There are also wiring errors or breakdowns of operating capacitors.
Foreign Matter Enters the Compressor
Trouble phenomenon: The compressor has a loud noise when it is running idling.
After decomposition, cracks are found in the moving and static disk scrolls.
After the upper cover is decomposed, the solder is found in the oil separator.
Problem analysis: The solder particles enter the compressor’s compression cavity, which causes cracks in the moving and static disk scrolls during the extrusion movement.
As for the source of the brazing filler metal, when the compressor suction pipe is welded to the air conditioning piping, due to the long heating time and insufficient pipe insertion depth, the filler will flow down the gap between the two pipings, forming filler particles and staying there.

Solutions of Outdoor Condensing Unit

The low-pressure switch is to prevent the compressor from running at excessive low pressure.
Please use a low-pressure pressure switch that operates at a low pressure of O Mpa (0kgf / cm2) or higher. Reference value: 0.02 ± 0.02MPa.
Reverse protection device: As this compressor will cause malfunctions due to reverse rotation, it is absolutely not allowed to reverse, so please install a reverse protection device that detects reversal.
High-pressure pressure switch: When the high-pressure pressure rises abnormally, the compressor needs to be stopped, and the high-pressure pressure switch for the selected action is specially set. The reference value: 2.9~3.0MPa.
