What is Hot Gas Bypass Valve
The hot gas bypass valve is an energy adjustment device.
It will bypass the high-pressure side gas to the low-pressure side.
That means the high-temperature gas refrigerant on the high-pressure side bypasses the low-pressure side of the system.
To ensure the system can operate very well under the condition of given minimum return pressure.
A hot gas bypass valve is no variable device for the compressor.
The hot gas bypass valve provides a useful, economical, and reliable energy regulation solution.
When the load drops, the suction pressure drops to a certain level, the suction pressure drops below the low-pressure control value.
Even when the pressure is at such a low load if you still don’t want to stop the system and require it to work normally.
Then you can use the hot gas bypass valve to adjust the energy.

How to Install a Hot Gas Bypass Valve
Method 1: Bypass the hot air to the suction pipe of the compressor
A hot gas bypass valve leads some hot gas from the exhaust pipe of the compressor to the suction pipe of the compressor.
When the hot gas enters, the suction temperature increases and the exhaust temperature will increase inevitably, then the gas temperature between the exhaust valve port and gas return port will drop around 10℃-23.9℃.
If the bypass flux is too much, the exhaust temperature rises too much, it will exceed the maximum allowable exhaust temperature and damage the compressor.
For avoiding that situation, the system needs to use a liquid injection valve to lead some liquid refrigerant from a high-pressure liquid pipeline to the suction pipeline.
When the liquid refrigerant evaporates, it will absorb the heat and release cool, then it can control the excessive rise of the exhaust temperature.
With this kind of arrangement method, the load is too low to a certain level, the flow rate of the refrigerant in the evaporator is too slow, which will cause difficulty in oil return.
Therefore, you can use the method to bypass the hot air to the middle of the front of the evaporator.
Method 2: Bypass the hot air to the inlet of the evaporator
Using this method, just like the hot gas provides an additional load for the evaporator.
The evaporator can be used as a direct mixing chamber, although the actual load is low, the expansion valve still can control much liquid supply for the evaporator, ensuring enough refrigerant flow speed inside of the evaporator.
The oil return function is greatly improved, even no more extra parts are added during the system, it can also avoid any other difficulties.
This arrangement method can defrost the evaporator when used in the air conditioning system.
The hot gas bypasses the inlet of the evaporator, even if under the condition of the evaporator is lower than the compressor.
When the system is under a low load, bypassing the hot air to the evaporator can make sure the proper oil return to the system.
When the hot gas is bypassed to the inlet of the evaporator, the hot gas bypass valve should be as close as possible to the compressor, to avoid the condensing of the hot gas bypass valve.
How to Adjust Hot Gas Bypass Valve
The main function of the hot gas bypass valve is to prevent the suction pressure is too low, even lower than the expected setting pressure value.
Then it can balance the cooling capacity in the refrigeration system.
So the first step after the installation of the hot gas bypass valve is to determine the lowest suction pressure under the operating condition, use it as the set point of the hot gas bypass valve.
Start the system and check whether the system works well.
Install a pressure gauge on the suction pipe of the compressor and measure the suction pressure after the system is stable.
For ensuring no hot gas bypassing at that time, please listen to the sound to see if there is air flowing inside of the hot gas bypass valve, or touch the outlet of the hot gas bypass valve.
If the temperature is too high if there is a sound inside of the hot gas bypass valve, which means the hot air has been bypassed already.
For preventing the hot gas bypass, you can cut off the power supply of the solenoid valve in the hot gas bypass line.
Or adjust the adjusting lever to make sure the hot gas bypass valve is in the closing condition.
Reduce the evaporator load until the suction pressure drops to the set point that the hot gas bypass valve requires.
You can choose the following way to reduce the load of the evaporator:
Close the outlet of gas, cover the evaporator, reduce the airflow, turn off the fan, turn off the bypass water of the water cooler.
Make sure the solenoid valve on the hot gas bypass line is open at this time.
Adjust the adjusting rod of the hot gas bypass valve, let the hot gas bypass valve begin to bypass the hot gas until the suction pressure no longer drops, and remain at the excepted value.
Change the load of the evaporator again, test whether the suction pressure under different working conditions is lower than the set pressure value.
Replace the sealing cap on the adjusting rod of the hot gas bypass valve.
Hot Gas Bypass Valve Using Tips
Do not use the refrigerants with the unknown using condition or is not on the list.
When you install the hot gas bypass valve, ensure the flow direction of the refrigerant is in the same direction as the arrow direction on the hot gas bypass valve.
In order to protect the internal parts of the hot gas bypass valve from moisture and impurities.
We will recommend you install a filter drier before the hot gas bypass valve in the refrigeration system.
Please wrap the hot gas bypass valve body with a wet towel when welding, this can avoid the damage of internal parts of the hot gas bypass valve because of the overheating for the hot gas bypass valve body.

For the refrigeration system with an automatic expansion valve, do not use hot gas bypass valve.
